Biggest career April Fool ever?

Yesterday’s 10-mile run included a mile walk through Magic Kingdom.

Biggest April Fool ever?

Some small things that were ridiculously minor tweaks, but i didn’t do them.

Why not?

Why don’t any of us (broad stereotype) do the easy (life-changing) tweaks standing right in front of us?

The good news is some time later i experimented with trying the opposite:

  • Moving the home office desk from facing a wall to facing out a window in 2009.
  • Moving from always speaking up in every meeting to never speaking up, in 2007.

The notion of “doing a 180” really can pay astonishing dividends – game changing dividends.

In the two examples above, the reward was seeing things everyday that you were never in a position to see.

Highest and best use of your 401k assets?

Holy Family Orlando Catholic Church
Many neglect their fiscal responsibilities. The time to worry about your future is when you don’t need to.

Meeting with Wells Fargo this morning to discuss rolling over the Disney 401k, managed by Fidelity Investments.

Fidelity would like it to keep it in the family – rollover the corporate 401k into a different Fidelity investment opportunity. This would eliminate any (albeit remote) possibility of a “claw back‘.

While claw backs are highly unlikely with a company like Disney, there are no guarantees.

There have been real life examples where companies have collapsed (remember Enron) and 401k nest eggs destroyed.

We all have our biased opinions

Disney Leadership Speaker
Donations will come from speaking revenue, not from book revenue.

We all have our biased opinions. What is exceptionally intriguing is how and when we take action based on our opinions.

Anyone can form an opinion and secretly think it’s brilliant.

But will it work in the real world?

Wanted to reduce the Kindle price to between one and two dollars – the price of an App. Even contemplated offering it for free. Xulon Press, the Publisher, can go no lower than $4.99. So that’s what we agreed on.

It took one day to change that price.

Have been quietly and secretly working on reducing the Amazon price for the paperback version of Mid Life Celebration. Aimed for seven or eight dollars, knowing Amazon further discounts books – bringing the purchase price near five dollars.

But $10.99 is the lowest Xulon will go. It took weeks to get this answer and then weeks to have it go live.

Live is in six days, on April 4, 2015. See for yourself, here.

Opinions mean nothing without action.

Work like you mean it: Four early “big ideas” that never took off

West Orange High School 9th grade center
He was less scared after seeing the campus.

Until you are out on your own as a solo entrepreneur, it’s easy to have a lifetime of delusional ideas about how business works. All the crazy ideas about spending money, priorities, brand building, marketing and sales – well, it’s all theory until you own it.

Dreaming is the easy part.

It’s almost pornographic how wild the business improvements or new ventures could go. All the “what if’s”.  So easy to go nuts.

Dreaming is the easy part.

Making stuff happen, nearly impossible.

Here are four early “bright ideas” that were like candles in the wind.

The coolest thing about mistakes is how much more meaningful – because of the real lessons learned – they are when you own the business.
