The biggest challenges

mountain bicycling
The sole reason i continue to write prolifically after 13+ years of never missing a day is to leave a trail for this college student. A secondary reason surfaced after the original 100-day, self-imposed writer’s bootcamp – writing helps me find peace and contentment on a wild planet.

The biggest challenges with fear:

  • Narrowing the gap between closed mindset and growth mindset
  • Unintentionally fueling no-win discussion/arguments
  • Quelling fear
  • Remaining patient and professional with the opposite
  • Losing hope that there will be a mutual understanding

Five things to know

mountains and a lake
Angel Wing dominates the foreground. Behind it, almost invisible, is Mt Gould, which is massively bigger from a different angle. Change what you see and what you see changes.

Five things to know:

  1. Wonderful blessings come from adversity
  2. Gratitude deepens, broadens, and accelerates wisdom
  3. Gratitude frees you from anger, hate, impatience
  4. Karma is a blue chip stock
  5. So is humility

Writing forces you to out-think and out-learn the former you, the non-writer. But not in a competitive way. In a steady, self-improvement way. Emotional wounds can be deep. Out thinking and out learning your former non-writing self is personal leadership triage.

Happy present moment and God bless everyone.

2021 Disney Keynote Speaker firsts

couple gazing into each other's eyes
These two share 66 years of Disney Service and Leadership.

2021 Disney Keynote Speaker firsts…this is an “intermission” in my unpacking last night’s intensely-painful event.

Deep breath.

Exhale.

And remember that writing is as cathartic a daily exercise as any other option.

Here goes a remarkably simple, uneventful story. Yet this story illustrates a dramatic leap in my artistry as a professional speaker. And it happened just four months ago. This is significant in the 23-year arch of a prolific speaking career.

Here goes:

Grateful that risk taking yields growth…

Let’s review the Disney Keynote Speaking firsts from 2021:

Walked from home to Disney Convention Center, to speak.

1st Disney speech – in 2,000 speeches – delivered without slides.

1st time using conference A/V staff to role-play a story.

1st Disney Keynote delivery in jean shorts.

1st time in Walt Disney World’s 50-year history a Disney conference speaker walked from their house to speak at Disney.

Bonus 1st: 1st time in 23 years with a 16-month (Covid) public-speaking gap.

All firsts happened in one day. Would have been ridiculously easy to take no risks. Just do what you always do – what works – since 1999. Without multiple risks of failure on this day there’d be no growth. And because none of the risks failed, it was an epic growth day.

None of these firsts required a checklist. All of these firsts required an unexplored frontier.

Knowing is a trap

Mater and jeff noel
Mater asked for his left fender to be scratched.

Magic happens by over-focusing on what is generally under-focused on or ignored.

Having never purchased a new car, it’s easier to justify flying to Maryland to watch a special movie with our son.

Knowing is a trap.

Say what?

To know is to do.

To know and not do is to not yet know.

Knowing is a trap.

Doing is freedom.

Disney Jesus

Disney Jesus? No. Not even close.
Disney Jesus? Which one? Neither. Nice try.
Are you sure? Those eyes look heavenly.
Surely not the Disney Jesus.
Jesus loves the little children of the world.
Disney Jesus? Probably. i heard (s)he rides a bike.

Disney Jesus?

What?

Jesus roamed the earth with only the clothes on his back.

He possessed wisdom for all ages.

No books, no notes, no iPhone.

In a dream, i envision me being like a Disney Jesus – carrying nothing more than the clothes on my back and an iPhone.

Preaching the Gospel according to Walt.

And a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
