Leadership is such an underused competitive advantage. Everything rises or falls because of leadership. Talent is important, and so is teamwork and drive.

Carving out time to think about this is rare.

You are the CEO of You, Inc.

Your leadership deserves reflective time to decide how and what you spend your time thinking about.

Why?

Because what you think about drives what you do.

i used to spend a lot of time doing the wrong (lower priority) things right.

Now for example, i carve out two hours every morning to get ready for a single day.

Over-focus on the same things others under-focus on or ignore.

The main reason organizational culture change fails is because CEO’s are focused on technical changes instead of adaptive changes.

The cultural disfunction never gets better because CEO’s are attacking symptoms, not causes.

This becomes an insidious pattern of dependency.

Meaning, the sense of urgency, and the fire drills to put out the fires are something people respond well to because the culture is reactive rather than proactive. And there is a “high” you get from “being productive” (putting out fires).

No one (stereotypically) in the organization with influence knows how to be proactive. At least that’s what it feels like to nearly everyone on the front line.

This is where i come in.

So grateful for having to work so hard for so long.

Not only am i closing in on the eighth consecutive year of prolific blogging, i’m also one month away (as this is written) from beginning year eight as an entrepreneur. Six and a half of those years i was also working at Disney Institute.

You know those lists of great reasons – the amazing benefits that are touted –  for becoming an entrepreneur?

They are under-rated.
