Leadership requires courage and boldness

Most Americans are immigrants or descendants of immigrants. It’s a beautiful world to have a Country that exists to give equal rights to all. Laws, codes, standards, processes, all designed to minimize or eliminate chaos and anarchy. Escaping anarchy and chaos are key drivers for people flocking to America.

Please note this update: Today’s five posts were written months ago. Remember, these blogs are a trail for our son…for him to hear and experience through my words what life blesses us with and how we honor those blessings. God has blessed me with a new, enlightened perspective. What you read today (written months ago) is not where i am now. Where i am now will delight and surprise you. It did me. Now, back to original, in-that-moment commentary…

Leadership requires courage and boldness.

No brainer, for sure.

But the emotional side of Faith, Hope, and Love muddy, to others, my motive.

But the motive is profoundly simple.

No neighbor gets an unfair exception for personal gain (hosting events that promote loud outdoor noise) at the expense of others (quiet residential neighborhoods on all four sides).

To speak up and challenge a Church Community is the last thing anyone wants to do.

Leadership does what needs to be done, when it needs to be done, whether the leader likes to do it or not.

The growth trifecta

Office bookshelf
Made flip chart for Zoom meeting surprise. Turns out it was only a phone call meeting. Took the photo to send to prospective client.

What is the growth trifecta?

  1. Feedback
  2. Coaching
  3. Development

This is the unpredictable part in taking initiative, some embrace feedback, some resist feedback.

Basics: Hang out with younger people

father and son candid photo
Children can count for hanging out with younger people, but better if it goes beyond blood relatives.

Basic aging tip…

Hang out with younger people.

Why?

Because aging people generally don’t.

One of the best ways to get younger people to hang out with you is to act, think, move, connect, work, and play like a younger person.

Work envy

Massage Envy form
Always the legal side of business. Totally get it. The final legal page converts normal writing style to ALL CAPS. And bolded. This is the last page of me saying if I get Covid-19, i will not hold ME responsible. This form is unrelated to Cheryl.

It was a busy two years before Covid-19, including launching an only child into the college world, record-high activity levels for Cheryl’s 36-year Disney, Executive Human Resources career, and my maturing personal, post-Disney speaking and advising business.

We own one credit card.

We do not own a debit card and have never used an ATM machine.

Ever.

We do not carry cash – a habit long before Apple Pay.

Credit card statements hold literally every transaction we engage in.

It’s a lot of transactions. A lot.

During 2018-2020, to manage our workload, i only looked at credit card charges over $100. Massage Envy never met that screening criteria.

Obviously, a lesson learned and a financial process reimagined. Now, every charge is reviewed.

BFO’s

safety sign
Three common sense requests. These are displayed because some people are not capable of thinking this way without a reminder. If they were, no sign is necessary.
Sometimes a brief video makes a “photo” location come alive.

Most Americans are entertained, medicated, and distracted.

We are hoodwinked. Tricked. Lied to.

By whom?

A long list of perpetrators.

At the list’s top is the person running your life.

Ouch. Of course ouch.

Fix this.

Please.
