Don’t let high stakes alter your values

When the stakes are high, so are our emotions. Don’t let high stakes alter our values. No compromising, even if it looks like we might lose.

Lose with dignity.

Win with humility and gratitude.

Speak like you mean it, and be willing to walk away

Speakers Bureau Contract sample
There was a clause in the contract that over-rode this . Signed last night, Jan. 12, 2016.

Began 25 minutes behind schedule and ran over my time by one minute, a net loss of 24 minutes. Never complained. Saw it coming and adapted on the fly. This is what a professional speaker does.

Did the client or the audience have any idea?

Certainly not the audience.

Just another day of doing work that matters.

Coincidently, received an email from a different client with great news. The Speakers Bureau’s client agreed to remove their video taping request.

i was willing to walk away from a big contract, rather than compromise my values.

Do Not Pass Go

Every entrepreneur comes face to face with this, even John Lasseter

Disney Parks blog Twitter screen shot
Yesterday.

Every entreprenuer comes face to face with this.

Interim ideals and values.

So challenging to stay true to the initial vision when things are being birthed.

And then with the growing pains.

We can surely come back to our ideals and values once we get established and settled?

Maybe not.

By then, our ideals and values will already be defined. Probably for good.

Rare when our ideals and values are not compromised from the very beginning.

One Question A Day?

At work when should we hold on and when should we just let it go?

Pray for a second chance? Or for the wisdom to just let it go?

If you meet with a leader in your organization and want to tell them the truth about internal cultural issues, and have a great plan for it, but when the meeting actually happens, you water it down… what would you do?

One of us is wrong, and it’s not me (right?)

Mountain range near Salt lake City from 20k feet
Classic “can’t see the forest for the trees” dilemma?

One of us is wrong, and it’s not me (right?). Conflict and adversity are an everyday part of business life.

For one, profit is the goal.

For the other, the reward.

How do they meet in the middle?

As soon as I tell you your wrong, you fight back even harder.

And likewise when you tell me I’m wrong.

Who, and what, gives… that is the question.

No easy answer, but we must lead with a balanced score card – how will any decision affect the finances, customers, and employees?

A great cost saver may unduly pressure employees, or negatively raise the customer’s hassle factor.

A helpful, nice to have, employee service may require money needed for key business drivers.

Great customer service may provide five-star service to a few at the expense of the general population.

These daily challenges are either the spice of life, or the bane of our existence.
