Beginner – expert spectrum

Gary is an expert. You are an expert. Everyone is an expert in their own personal opinion.

You know who gives you what you’re lacking in personal confidence?

You.

Great news. Maybe not what you expected, but still great news.

This means that you can go at your own pace.

This means that you can set your own goals and work hard, at your pace, to achieve them.

Seems logical to believe that motivation is also an inside job.

It is worth discerning that everyone can benefit from mentors, coaches, and continuous education. These initiatives, of course, are also an inside job.

There is beauty and power in hearing this from an expert. With 60 years experience, and a drive with few rivals, consider where you put someone like me on the beginner-expert spectrum.

The power of sincere feedback

College dining hall
Turned around last night to grab a photo of where we just finished eating dinner.
encouraging text message
This encouraging text message about my new Podcast arrived while we had dinner in Baltimore last night.

The power of sincere feedback. And i quote:

“Your joy is so pervasive in your delivery.”

A positive blind spot.

Didn’t know.

Why?

No one told me before.

It’s a hope that listeners feel it. Yet without validation, all you can do is wonder.

Confidence and the impossible

questions
Yesterday’s client call revolved around these questions.

Some call it the most important sports moment of the 20th century.

The hour-long documentary about the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey team is here.

i watched it but don’t expect (nor recommend) anyone else watch it. It’s a bit like one of yesterday’s posts called out:

When random chaos meets an open willingness.

Knowing what i know

Green room before speech.

Knowing what i know, i’ll be the only Disney business wisdom expert in the room.

Bank on being the expert.

Make a difference.

It’s what we all aspire to do.

Who recommends their stiffest competition?

Did i mention that one of the “management consulting” firms was  a recommendation? My other recommendation was Disney Institute.

They have not contacted Disney Institute because they already understand their pricing.

This makes me smile. Who recommends their stiffest competition?

Probably no one.
