Great Disney leaders are visionary

Disney Leadership conference speakers
Visionary leaders see the same things everyone else sees, but they intuitively see it differently.

Great Disney leaders are visionary.

They obsess about communicating a clear, concise, and compelling vision.

A picture of the future that’s better than now, much better.

For many, what the visionary leader sees clearly, others insist on it being an impossibility.

Driven.

Determined.

Inspiring.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Seeing what no one else sees and seeing more of it

Nassau, Bahamas port
There are countless distractions in a Cruise ship port, all of them intended to get you to impulse buy.

Bicycle at Nassau port
Walking past a bicycle like thousands do every day.

Bicycle at Nassau port
Walking past what everyone walks past but seeing something no one else sees.

Bicycle at Nassau port
And not only seeing what no one else sees, but seeing more of it than no one else sees.

Yesterday when we hid Janice’s birthday cake in the Senior Living Facility communal kitchen and my first thought was, “Look at all this table space. This would be a perfect place to lay out all seven story boards and get started.”

Disney really honed my thinking. i wasn’t thinking about the storyboards, but in seeing the large table space, i immediately remembered the opportunity and possibility.

Can’t turn it off.

It’s a blessing and a curse.

Six days away from launching the next big thing

Disney Institute team 2009 in Chicago
Deeply indebted to my colleagues at Disney Institute. Here are some of them in 2009, in Chicago.

Six days away from launching the next big thing.

Back in the day, the thought of writing a single Disney book felt overwhelming.

But with…

Growth.

Confidence.

Purpose.

Now, the goal is seven Disney books.

Wait until you hear the timeline for this impossible goal.

Pretty scary.

Disney creativity experiment on LinkedIn yesterday

The text in this photo sets the context for today’s post…

Disney Creativity jeff noel
This was inspired after having taken the risk to do my first Guest PodCast appearance.

Disney creativity experiment on LinkedIn yesterday:

Sean called in less than a minute. We spoke for an hour. He asked for advice, so i gave him exactly what i did to launch my business in 2009:

1. Don’t quit your day job

  • Life will be hard whether you work two jobs or are desperately trying to be discovered in only one job
  • Having a steady income takes pressure off and buys you time to develop your dream

2. Write publicly

  • Don’t expect any readers (except family) and don’t try to be perfect
  • This refines what you truly believe in and how you want to say it

3. Live in gratitude

  • Try being unhappy when you’re grateful
  • You, like everyone else, are in a hell, coming out of a hell, or about to enter a hell know one knows about; it can’t be an excuse or crutch

4. Set a compelling deadline

  • Accelerates decisions
  • Eliminates excuses

Sean’s story humbled and inspired me.

Thinking creatively at Disney is like breathing – no thought whatsoever.

First Disney Way Podcast

Disney Way Leadership Speaker
Disney Way at Disneyland.

Not one iota was scripted…

My first podcast interview about Disney’s success secrets. Fascinating, informative, and fun.

Odds are high some of the Disney secrets can be game changers for your organization, your department, or for you personally.
