Helpful career accidents

Disney Leadership speaker Jeff Noel
Circa late-2014 or early-2015. One of the first Mid Life Celebration, post-Disney keynote speeches. Who dat on left edge?

Wisdom comes from experience. Experience comes from making mistakes.

Guess that makes some people geniuses.

Have made more mistakes speaking than most people have given speeches. Meaning, have easily made 1,000 speaking mistakes (accidents) and few people have given 1,000 speeches.

Crave two types of failure.

Unintentional (accidental) failure.

Intentional (over-focused) failure.

Cure success?

There is an obvious cure for failure – and that is success. But what is the cure for success?

Jody Maberry said some stuff i never saw coming

Disney podcaster jeff noel
Today talked about some stuff that i never saw coming.

Jody Maberry said some stuff i never saw coming.

Like what?

Well, Jody’s biggest observation was one i had forgotten about. Jody shared how i asked him to allow me to do an approach to podcasting that may fail, when we first discussed how we’d approach working together for the first time.

To me, that isn’t noteworthy.

i mean, why would you ever not being willing to fail?

Failure isn’t fatal (yes, there are exceptions, especially in war) and embracing failure is the only way to flourish creatively.

Will you regret this failure?

From an App last night. Benchmarking their pitch and seeing if it lives up to the hype.

We fear failure.

So we don’t take the risk.

Ask yourself, “Will i regret this if it fails?”

The instinctive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. – Albert Einstein

Overachieving and delusional sounds about right

Disney Conference Keynote Speakers
Took this photo of a Walt Disney World storm drain cover in Magic Kingdom.

A few days ago, our 2017 income taxes were filed.

Joyce, our tax preparer since 2010, and i reminisced how the first six years my business didn’t make a dime. However, i was still full-time at Disney and had a steady salary.

And this is significant because i was afraid the IRS would think i wasn’t serious – just another fool who thought they had something special the world would pay a lot of money for.

Perhaps i was a fool in more ways than one – delusional writer and small business entrepreneur.
