The Glaciers will be gone from Glacier soon

Glacier National Park history
Social media screenshot recently. Marketing photo from the 1930’s to encourage women to visit Glacier. Pictured are Salamander and Grinnell glaciers.

The Glaciers will be gone from Glacier soon.

Anything smaller than 25 acres and less than 100 feet thick disqualifies them from being glaciers.

This isn’t what drives me to visit.

But the fact that the remaining 25 glaciers (there were 150 glaciers 150 years ago) will be gone in a few years is a bonus opportunity.

Overachieving and delusional sounds about right

Disney Conference Keynote Speakers
Took this photo of a Walt Disney World storm drain cover in Magic Kingdom.

A few days ago, our 2017 income taxes were filed.

Joyce, our tax preparer since 2010, and i reminisced how the first six years my business didn’t make a dime. However, i was still full-time at Disney and had a steady salary.

And this is significant because i was afraid the IRS would think i wasn’t serious – just another fool who thought they had something special the world would pay a lot of money for.

Perhaps i was a fool in more ways than one – delusional writer and small business entrepreneur.

The Disney Decade 1990 – 2000

Disney Customer Service Speakers
My home town.

Michael Eisner and the late Frank Wells actually initially described their ambitious plans for the “Disney Decade” as a dream.

In the introduction to the Walt Disney Company’s 1990 employee annual report (which — appropriately enough — was entitled “Building a Dream Together”), Eisner and Wells said that they’d …

“… been doing a lot of dreaming lately. And we’ve given the dream a name. It’s called the ‘Disney Decade.’

The Disney Decade is about a dream, and it’s about us. The plans are incredibly exciting and will touch every aspect of this Company … New hotels, new attractions and a new theme park at Walt Disney World. The biggest expansion of Disneyland in its history.

Some might think that we’re overly ambitious. We don’t think so … We’re confident about achieving the mission we’ve set for the next ten years. After all, people the world over expect Disney to dream, and dream big.

If the Disney dream, in its sheer size and scope, takes your breath away, we want you to know it does the same for us. But we’re certain that there are still plenty more dreams to go around. Just wait until … ten years from now … when we’ll be talking about Mickey’s Millennium!”

Hat tip to Jim Hill Media’s 2005 article for a detailed look back.

We worked at Disney’s Contemporary Resort back in the 1980’s

Disney's first Hotels under construction.
Had never seen a photo of this until the Facebook Group.

The Disney heritage stories are as common as the prolific sable palm trees (the Florida State Tree). The vintage Disney photos are often rare. Never saw the photo above until yesterday on the Facebook group, “We worked at the Contemporary back in the ’80’s“.

The Hotel rooms were constructed offsite, but still on Disney Property, by US Steel, in a modular fashion and literally slid into the large A-Frame structure.

The room construction was rumored to be so complete that the carpet was installed and even the light bulbs were screwed into the lamps.
