Walt Disney Has Made Me A Better Person

Walt Disney has made me a better person.

Why?  How?

Great questions, to be sure.

Our son’s birthday is in August, so starting tomorrow, I’d like to begin a new chapter at jungle jeff that will help readers see how surprisingly simple Walt Disney’s philosophies are.

The goal will be to showcase some simple, no cost ways my life improved as a Dad, by adapting what Walt Disney thought was important.

I really believe it will help you see how Walt  Disney thought, in a way you probably never thought of before.

And once you understand how simple and effective Walt Disney’s philosophies are – and how they can even be applied to being a better person – the more likely you’ll be to want to try it yourself.

Deal?

Great.  See ya real soon, and, oh yeah, carpe diem, jungle jeff 🙂

PS.  Tomorrow, I’ll tell you the Twistee Treat “tradition” story.

The Wow Factor Works Like This

The wow factor.  Most have heard of it.  Many, even, have written about it.

Walt Disney perfected it, and made it “business as usual”, while others are still trying to comprehend how to do it consistently.

So how is it instilled in every employee of an organization?  That’s the vision isn’t it?  That all your employees, at every level, embrace the consistent, surprising and delighting, of all your customers.

And by the way, I’ve always said, “Consistency is the hallmark of Quality Service”.

Anyway, back to my original point.  I’m checking my gate number on the monitor and hear, “Over here”!

Michele, the TSA hostess, calls me over to the expert traveler line.  There is no line.  Sweet!  And I find myself smack on the receiving end of the wow factor – small, seemingly insignificant moments when an employee does something nice for a Customer.

I’ve never been invited through the expert traveller line.  She told me I could come back the next time I fly.

Thank you Michele.  See you next week.

Carpe diem, jungle jeff 🙂

The Magic Kingdom Goes to SHRM

Good Tuesday morning everyone.  I didn’t think the alarm clock was ever going to go off this morning.

I’ve always been a morning person.   Seriously.  When I was younger, I used to stay up for it.  Now, I wake up for it.  Funny how life comes full-circle.

Anyway, here’s a nice post on Disney Institute entitled, The Magic Kingdom goes to SHRM.

It’s written by The Red Recruiter.  Once again, Google Alerts sent me an email link.

Not using Google Alerts?   Click Google Alerts to find out how.  It’s free, too.

As a bonus, I’m providing to you the link to The Red Recruiter’s post on the keynote speaker, Jack Welch.

Jack spoke about, among other things, control, trust and the future.

While you’re dreaming about the future, please don’t forget about today.  Carpe diem, jungle jeff 🙂

Do you love what you do?

Do you love what you do?

Ever heard, “Do what you love and you’ll never have to work another day in your life?”

I hope you love what you do.  Where I work, we strive to hire people for positions they will most likely enjoy and are naturally suited for.

It’s called “right-fit talent”.

My wife spent ten years in a very large employment office in Central Florida. I conducted hundreds of interviews myself. So, I know the process intimately.

Want a simple answer? One that’s so easy, even a caveman can understand?

Hire people in positions where they “get to do” more than they “have to do”. It’s unsophisticated and maybe even too simple for senior HR professionals who have their own corporate HR jargon.

Do you “get to do” more than you “have to do“? How about the people who work for you and/or report to you?

Make it a GREAT day, because if you don’t, who will? If you’re a leader, the people around you are looking for “cool, calm, collected – optimistic, hopeful, inspiring“. Carpe diem, jungle jeff 🙂
