Pixie Dust versus Reality

Pixie dust vs reality.

Pixie Dust versus Reality.

The truth?

Yes, please.

Ok.

You should sit down for this.

Pixie Dust and hard work (focus and discipline) are synonymous.

But non-Disney business professionals attending Disney Institute multi-day courses or keynote speeches never want to believe it comes down to focus and discipline.

So i coined the phrase, “Pixie Dust versus Reality”, as a segue to a candid conversation which serves as the catalyst for a blunt personal inventory about beliefs, effort, and results.

It makes honest people uncomfortable – in a good way.

It makes pessimists and naysayers spout excuses – so predictably.

It’s not the Magic that makes it work, it’s the hard work that makes it Magic.

PS. Indebted to Mary Flynn for her writing genius.

You’d never believe backstage Disney looks so unmagical

Backstage is clean, functional, and efficient.

You’d never believe backstage Disney looks so unmagical.

Disney backstage areas are clean, functional and efficient, but they will never win any awards for being Magical.

Why?

Roy Disney said, “Only spend money on things the camera can see.”

What is the camera?

Our Guests’ eyes.

If our Guests can’t see it, we don’t spend money on it.

Think about your garage, attic, and closets.

Now compare them to your living room, kitchen, and front door area.

You are naturally applying the same concept.

When impossible meets drive and vision, Magic happens.

John Faurote contacted me via a LinkedIn message a couple years ago.

He basically said, “I don’t know how I can help you but I would like to be part of what you are doing.”

From the start i told him to create a business whereby he could offer people like me a structured process for speaking engagements.

I didn’t want him to build it for me because life is unpredictable.

I insisted he think long-term and BIG.

If he and i ever parted ways, for any reason, he would have and own an incredible asset that did not depend on my business (or anyone’s).

Man, did he ever exceed my expectations.

Looking forward to his proposals.

The art of creating often seems Magical

The art of creating superior products and services often seems Magical from the outside.

The reality is it’s not the Magic that makes it work, it’s the work that makes it Magic.

Even someone like Ed Sheeran knows this.

Ed wrote the song for someone else – to “give away” as he says.

Apparently, in 90 minutes, he created one of his biggest singles.

Let this karma of imperfect truth inspire you to go somewhere today you’ve never been – a place you dream of all the time but don’t think is possible.

If you could but didn’t, “Why not?”

Hint, look at your name tag.
