Work campfire chat

Rocket launch smoke trail in sky
Rocket launch a few days ago. Another one tonight.

Campfire chats started when Jody and i realized we talked about how the season went – after the final season review episode – and thought it would be fun to hit the record button. Pull up a chair, log, rock, or ground and enjoy warmth, light, smells, nature, and whatever the conversation brings.

Pervasive, organized, scalable positivity?

jeff noel Tweet and retweet
Yesterday, Craig’s Tweet comment while he retweeted my Tweet.

‪How i am responding to this wake up call is my personal leadership report card. Same for everyone.‬

Disney has operational priorities. One set of four that apply across our entire enterprise, for organizational vibrancy.

The application to personal vibrancy is easily transferable.

Safety, Courtesy, Show, Efficiency.

Non-negotiable, Famous-for, Business Need.

Pervasive, organized, scalable positivity?

Perhaps.

Depends who you ask.

By the way…

i’ve adapted this context-neutral Disney Business insight and applied it to my personal (and professional) life. There are three:

  1. Non-negotiable: Safety
  2. Famous For: Service
  3. Business Need: Simplicity

Your go-to set of attitudes

Steve Jobs quote
Every leader is telling a story about what he or she values, through their behaviors.
Questions for podcast interview
Today’s Catalyst Sale podcast questions from Mike Simmons.

Your go-to set of attitudes is called mindset.

(please assume here an underlying tone of deep encouragement – all your previous victories)

Problem or challenge?

Problem of opportunity?

Mid Life Crisis or Mid Life Celebration?

When we spent our life savings to try to become parents and there was not only no guarantee, the odds 30 years ago (when we started) were unencouragingly low.

At first i was sad our life savings was gone.

Quickly, i became grateful the money had been there to spend.

Moving my 35 year-old desk from the far wall, with my back always to the windows, to across the room against the windows and facing out the East windows – transformational.

Same room. Same Desk.

Different location.

Only took 15 years to discover.

Starting every day on my knees since our son was born.

An after school hug for 15 years. Why?

Quitting drinking after nearly three decades. Why?

Starting a podcast. Why? Help me fail.

Necessity is the mother of invention

Glacier National Park mountain views
View from a trail 99.99% of hikers never hike. This trail goes behind and past Mt Reynolds.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

Now is that time.

What time?

The time for necessity.

Here’s an opportunity…there’s a rising belief that millenials expect their personal problems (i call them challenges) to be business challenges – that business owners need to care about and solve their employee’s issues.

Fundamentally, i believe everyone is the CEO of You, Inc.

Meaning, you are personally responsible for everything in your life.

The opportunity is in equipping a generation of young adults who weren’t “parented to manifest personal ownership” – in essence, parenting has been dumped onto the shoulders of business owners.

If Disney Ran Your Life podcast may have an opportunity to help businesses empower their employees with personal responsibility.
